A page for sharing my journey on this train known as Autism. Follow me, as I discover and explore, study and learn through the unique and neurodiverse view that is my son's window to the world.
This blog grew out of my personal experiences as a mother and an instagram page I created in January 2020 of the same name @autismmamawestlondon.
I never planned to create a website, but I enjoyed writing my posts on Instagram so much that I felt quite limited by the word limit constraints. Lockdown happened and I began to read more, enrolled on some courses, and felt ready to begin a blog. Start a website. Share more.
By profession I am a qualified Primary school teacher with nearly 20 years experience teaching in mainstream schools abroad and in London, UK. During this time, I worked with a lot of Autistic children in a mainstream setting. Since leaving teaching, I've completed an Autism Awareness Diploma, as well as courses in Yoga for Autism (Yotism), An Introduction to Child Psychology and Understanding Autism.
In my personal life, I am a mother of 2. My son, aged 11, was diagnosed with Autism at age 3, although I knew he was Autistic from about the age of 10 months. I also have a daughter who is 2. So far, she appears Neurotypical in her development.
I don't just want to talk about my own life here. I want to hear from others. Perhaps you have a child on the spectrum too? Perhaps you work with children and adults on the spectrum and have your own experiences to share? Perhaps you yourself are Autistic and needed a place to visit and feel safe and welcomed?
This page will continue to be updated on a regular basis as I begin to document, share and offer support and advice. During this time, feel free to drop me a line over on the contact page. In the meantime, do check out my instagram page @autismmamawestlondon and thank you for stopping by - I hope my website can help! :)
